The Co-founders of BOB have successfully marshaled the company’s resources through the early stages of development and have positioned it for rapid growth. We are now seeking to build a team who share the values of the company and who are energized by the challenge of creating a carbon-neutral livestock industry for the next generation. Critical to our success is a team member who is, firstly, skilled in the art and practice of accounting and financial management of rapidly growing enterprises. In our present circumstances, we are looking for someone to take the lead as described below.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Manage day-to-day company accounts.
  • Ensure the financial statements for all locations are accurate and fairly stated monthly.
  • Complete bank reconciliation for US locations; support external accountant for Mexico location.
  • Oversee and continuously improve month-end close and accounting processes, leveraging system capabilities for accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Complete required transaction entries and journal entries.
  • Complete all sales tax payments, returns, and journal entries.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Manage implementation of GAAP accounting for stock-based compensation, international intercompany accounting, cost accounting for aquaculture/manufacturing, and revenue recognition.
  • Develop and manage financial controls and accounting procedures. Ensure all controls and procedures are documented, implemented, and conform with governmental regulations as well as efficient operations.
  • Coordinate and produce all tax and insurance documentation as required.
  • Manage and track the compliance calendar, ensuring timely completion of required filings, renewals, and compliance-related tasks.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Assist with financial planning.
  • Oversee budget forecasting and cash flow management in collaboration with the Director of FP&A.
  • Provide financial analysis, communicate findings, and advise management on increasing revenue and reducing costs.
  • Monitor banking activities of Blue Ocean Barns Inc. and Blue Ocean Barns Mexico to ensure adequate cash flow.
  • Vendor & Relationship Management
  • Maintain speed and accuracy of billings and customer payments through relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Support and interface with operations team members managing relationships with third-party vendors for payroll, insurance, etc.
  • Continually investigate more cost-effective options, including benefit programs, company insurance, etc.
  • Operations & Oversight
  • Oversee all purchasing, receiving, fixed assets, inventory, and payroll processes to ensure accurate recording.
  • Supervise a small internal staff and manage external financial and system services.
  • Work with the co-founders on the strategic vision of the company.

Experience & Abilities

  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a Controller, senior level accountant or in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Proficient in Quickbooks, bill.com, Google software (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) and other reporting software. AirTable experience is also desired. Ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA (certified public accountant) desired.
  • Spanish fluency is strongly preferred, with the capability to engage in professional discussions regarding company financials, budgets, and financial reporting with our team in Mexico.
