BurnBot provides systematic fuels treatment services to prevent destructive wildfires. We're firefighters, scientists, engineers, prescribed fire practitioners, ecologists, and community members who are answering the call to scale fuel treatment capacity.

The Role

BurnBot is seeking a Sr. Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our rapidly growing Field Operations team. This role will be responsible for diagnoses and repair of Forestry / logging equipment and accessories, diagnoses and repair of hydraulic and A/C systems, perform preventative maintenance, fabrication and welding as needed. Must be a self motivated problem solver with the ability to work in a team environment.

This role is a non-exempt role with an hourly rate $45-55. However, we do consider many factors when creating job offers, including (but not limited to), the role, location, responsibilities, experience, training, education, and skillset.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Comply with all state and federal regulations; safety or otherwise.

• Maintain and promote a safe, productive and positive working environment.

• Troubleshoot equipment or vehicle failures in the field and shop.

• Delegate and manage duties and tasks assigned to BurnBot Heavy Equipment Mechanics

• Willing to travel daily to different project sites or bases

• Field repair and maintenance including:

• • Replacement and or repair of wearing parts on a variety of mastication and logging equipment.

  • Electrical diagnosis harness repair and/or replacement.

  • Retrieve and process engine codes to create repair solutions.

  • Proficient in the use of welding and fabricating equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and A/C systems. This includes but is not limited to fabricating hoses, rebuilding valves, resealing/repairing rams, and cleaning and recharging systems.

  • Tire and Track repair and replacement.

• Shop duties including:

• • Complete engine overhaul/rebuild and proficient in Cummins, Caterpillar, Ford, and International diesel engines.

  • Replacement of carrier bearings, spindles, track plates, track frames, final drives, belly pans, track rollers, steel/rubber tracks and electronics.

  • Emissions testing, fault code diagnosis and repair solutions.

  • Welding and fabrication

• Hydraulic system repairs and cylinder rebuilds, trailer repair and fabrication, bushing replacement, and maintenance on all heavy forestry equipment and trucks.

• Wildland fire skid and engine repair.

• Scheduling for parts and equipment for maintenance.

• Maintaining condition of assigned service truck.

• Submitting equipment inspections and repair work orders digitally.

• DOT annual and BIT 90 inspections on all vehicles that apply.

• Strong bias for action and the ability to execute assigned tasks with or without guidance.

• Can adapt to a fast changing environment and work priorities.

• Desire to learn, ask questions and take on new responsibilities as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• At least 10 Years of experience and 5 years of experience at a Journeyman level

• Valid Unrestricted Commercial Drivers License (Class A)

• Ability to operate a BurnBot Vehicle

• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in:

• • Forest mastication and logging, assembly, and overhaul.

  • Repair and adjustment of gas and diesel powered trucks, heavy construction and maintenance equipment

• Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and A/C systems and provide a corrective action

• Knowledge of operating characteristics of heavy equipment

• Must be able to safely operate forestry equipment including but not limited: Dozer, skid steer, masticator, excavator, feller buncher, skidder, and other tracked or wheeled equipment

• Must be familiar with CAT, John Deere, FAE, TigerCat and other major equipment manufacturers

• Must be capable of safely rigging and securing machines needing repair on steep ground operations

• Physical ability to lift/push/pull weights of up to 100 lbs with regularity

• Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach, grasp and climb various surfaces and heights

• Be able to commute to assigned job sites

• Ability to communicate effectively
