POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Hanwha Q CELLS Grid & Energy Services (G&ES) is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the design, build, and operation of a next-generation cloud platform that powers grid-interactive energy services, distributed energy resource (DER) orchestration, forecasting, and AI-driven optimization.
You will guide high-performing teams responsible for core platform capabilities that must be reliable, secure, scalable, and continuously evolving for real-time and near-real-time use cases in 24/7 production environments.

Open to candidates based in Santa Clara, CA or Seattle, WA

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in setting technical direction and evolution of the cloud platform
- Ensure designs meet high standards for availability, scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Establish and evolve core platform primitives (identity, data ingestion, eventing, observability, deployment, configuration, and access control).
- Oversee the full software lifecycle—from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
- Define and own production readiness practices including SLOs/SLIs, on-call models, operational runbooks, and post-incident reviews.
- Balance rapid iteration with the rigor required for safety-, compliance-, and reliability-sensitive systems.
- Catalyze data science and energy application teams through platform capabilities for experimentation, model deployment, inference, and monitoring.
- Support AI-driven decision systems and intelligent agents while ensuring safe, observable, and auditable production behavior.
- Translate advanced analytics and AI requirements into scalable, well-instrumented platform services.
- Empower, delegate, build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams with a strong culture of ownership and accountability.
- Coach engineers and technical leads to grow their architectural, operational, and leadership skills.
- Set a high bar for engineering excellence, automation, code quality, and operational rigor.
- Partner closely with Business, Product, SRE, Grid Operations, Data Science, Security, and Field teams to deliver cohesive platform solutions.
- Translate ambiguous regulatory, market, and operational requirements into clear technical plans and execution.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs and platform strategy effectively to senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years leading software engineering teams building and operating enterprise-grade cloud platforms.
- Demonstrated ownership of large-scale, production distributed systems with real-time or near-real-time requirements.
- Strong hands-on experience in backend engineering with Java or C#, as well as Python; able to dive deep into architecture and code when needed.
- Deep understanding of cloud-native system design, DevOps/SRE practices, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging/streaming systems, and high-volume data processing.
- Proven ability to balance speed of delivery with reliability, security, and operational excellence, with a high sense of ownership and bias for action and results.
- Track record of building, mentoring, and retaining high-performing engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
- Travel may be required up to 10%, depending on business needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building platforms for energy, IoT, industrial, fintech, trading, or other mission-critical domains.
- Background supporting ML/AI systems in production, including model deployment, inference, and monitoring.
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with time-series data, telemetry pipelines, and real-time control or optimization systems.
- Experience with AI agents or autonomous system architectures.

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide.
