Staff Specialist, Customer Analytics

Kevala is seeking an expert to join its Customer Solutions team as a Staff Specialist, Customer Analytics. The ideal candidate should be a passionate advocate for decarbonizing the grid and bring a depth of project execution and grid and energy systems integration experience, with a focus on product delivery in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) based solutions enablement. We are looking for a pragmatic and dedicated individual who resonates with our bold organizational culture while recognizing the complexity of managing client relationships.
What you will be doing
The Staff Specialist, Customer Analytics is responsible for developing state of the art methodologies and producing analytical results and insights to address the challenges in the changing energy industry with respect to energy customer’s access to new technologies. This position includes developing methodologies and prototype tools for designing customer pricing options, customer facing programs, and forecasting customer behavior related to energy consumption and adoption of distributed energy resources. This is an expert level position reporting to the Manager of Customer Analytics.
Responsibilities include:

Lead the design and implementation of analytics and methodologies using Excel, SQL queries, and/or Python scripts to support project delivery and product development.

Lead the development of functional requirements, software specifications, and other written internal documentation to ensure software-based solutions are well-designed to meet customer needs, as specified in contracts and scopes of work.

Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) using Excel, SQL, and/or Python to identify trends, anomalies, and key insights in energy datasets, and ensure data accuracy through review and cleaning tasks.

Leverage databases for efficient querying and management of large energy datasets, enabling advanced analytics for renewable energy technologies, rate design and/or customer behavior modeling.

Lead the design and implementation of insightful dashboards and visualizations to communicate findings and inform client decision-making.

Lead research and analysis of advancements in distributed energy resource (DER) technologies to enhance client deliverables based on customer provided data types including by not limited to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

Provide utility industry and analytical expertise to support project delivery and product development.

Scale and build processes to improve delivery and coordinate staffing of project teams.

Identify synergies among projects and program development.

Drive consistency in approach and application of methodologies in both projects and programs.

Support the platform vision as it relates to analytics capabilities, including productizing more common service offerings and developing the business case for new service offerings.

Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in Development, Professional and Advisory Services, and Product to integrate analytics capabilities into SaaS solutions, ensuring technical rigor and scalability.

Participate in ambassadorial activities in support of the Company mission such as workshops, presentations, conference presentations, chairing conference sessions, and speaking in regulator and utility forums.
What you need to succeed

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Data Analytics, Engineering or a related major is required.

Minimum six (6) years as a technical expert in utility analytics, such as cost of service, rate design, load forecasting, DER forecasting and/or program design, evaluation and cost effectiveness assessments for electricity, gas, or dual fuel utilities.

Demonstrated subject matter expertise in forecasting customer energy use, customer technology adoption and resulting behavior changes, customer program design and customer pricing design.

Direct work experience supporting research studies to develop new insights and data driven analyses to support client projects leveraging a mult-faceted software platform.

Proven record for developing prototypes to prove out concepts and drive future product development while meeting project needs.

Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.

Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.

The compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $ 145,000 - $ 168,000, plus equity (stock options). This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors, including level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package that reflects your excitement about joining Kevala.
This is a fully remote role which can be located anywhere within the United States. Please note, actual salaries may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, and location.
