About Us

Leap’s mission is to combat climate change by enabling a reliable electric grid that runs on clean energy. The electric grid is transforming from dirty (but predictable) fossil fuels to clean (but less predictable) renewable energy. To do so, the grid needs more flexible demand and supply to help maintain stability and reliability.

Leap plays a crucial role in opening up wholesale energy markets to all distributed energy resources, enabling our partners to get paid for providing flexibility to the grid.

Leap is a privately-held tech company with funding from top VCs and well-known energy entrepreneurs. We are a remote distributed workplace with teammates based across the globe, in Europe and North America.

Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our team and help shape, scale, and maintain our cloud-native infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in designing reliable systems, automating operations, and ensuring that our platform remains performant, secure, and resilient as we grow.

Our stack includes AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Datadog and GitLab CI/CD, and we’re seeking someone who can bring deep expertise in these areas while driving best practices across engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) with repeatability, security, and scalability in mind.
  • Operate and improve Kubernetes clusters, ensuring availability, resilience, and performance of applications running in production.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
  • Enhance observability, including metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, SLOs, and dashboards to ensure system health and high service reliability.
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying and eliminating toil through automation, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design scalable solutions, review architecture, and provide guidance on DevOps and SRE best practices.
  • Ensure security and compliance across environments, including IAM, network policies, secrets management, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Perform incident response and root-cause analysis, contributing to continuous improvement and post-incident reviews.
  • Champion reliability and performance, helping shape standards for high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or related engineering roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including core services (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns.
  • Solid expertise with Kubernetes, including cluster operations, manifests, Helm, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline architecture, runners, and automation.
  • Experience with monitoring & observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Datadog, OpenTelemetry).
  • Strong scripting/programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, Bash).
  • Understanding of distributed systems, networking fundamentals, load balancing, and service mesh concepts.
  • Familiarity with modern security practices, including secrets management, IAM design, and infrastructure hardening.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in a remote or hybrid environment or demonstrating the ability to be productive and engaged, manage time effectively, work independently and succeed in a fully remote environment.
  • Experience working in a distributed teams environment or demonstrating the ability to virtually communicate and collaborate effectively with team members across multiple time zones, using remote communication tools such as Slack, Zoom and ClickUp (or other project management platforms)
