Matter. is a VC backed Cleantech scale-up and has an opportunity for an experienced Field Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering projects from build through to start-up. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex industrial filtration systems, ensuring they are installed correctly, commissioned safely, and perform to specification. Salary Range: £47,970 – £69,290 per annum

The Opportunity

As Field Engineer, you will play a key role in driving our business growth across multiple industries, with an initial focus on the textile and laundry industries.

You will take the technical and practical lead of conducting testing with customers to support the Commercial Team in driving revenue growth. You will also be the technical and practical lead at customer’s sites with respect to installation and commissioning of Matter equipment. Some maintenance actions and post commissioning support/troubleshooting will also play a key role in customer success.

You will be responsible for the planning of such testing and work closely with our Commercial and Engineering teams to ensure successful outcomes with the customer.

Key to this role is practical experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment, or similar industrial solutions.

Key to success in this role is working closely with customers to understand their needs and how we can help add value. You will be a self-motivated problem solver with strong engineering experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the technical lead in planning for and conducting benchtop scale testing, analysis and reporting at customer’s sites.
  • Being responsible for the installation and commissioning plan of industrial equipment at a customer’s site, whether for trial or following purchase.
  • Develop and deliver the commissioning process for Matter’s equipment at customer’s sites.
  • Work with the Engineering team to develop technical documentation, including assembly, installation and commissioning plans.
  • Champion health and safety at Matter and customer sites. Support the Commercial Team in the development of new leads all the way through to sale and installation.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Commercial teams to support the evolution and development of existing and new product, leveraging insights gained from on-site activities and capturing customer requirements.
  • Consider and define the training needs of future team of direct reports focused on technical support of customer trials and installations.
  • Working and delivering in line with Matter values.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

How you will make an Impact

Whilst this role does not entail any direct reports during 2025, this role will have scope to plan for such direct reports, and the training of them, as Matter’s business activity grows. These reports may be internal, or be placed with third-party sub-contractors.

How you will grow

The Commercial and engineering teams are there to support you at all times, with the Commercial leadership in particular helping you to deliver on the responsibilities outlined.

You will also be given some KPIs which are designed to give you clarity and focus in your work, and to help you achieve your objectives. These KPIs are also essential in helping us to work out how the company might do business better.

We will schedule weekly 1-2-1 meetings to check in on progress and talk through any issues that you would like to address. We will then hold more detailed appraisals after 6 and 12 months.

About You

Your essential experience
  • Experience installing and commissioning industrial equipment.
  • Experience working directly with customers.
  • Experience writing technical reports.
Your desirable experience
  • Experience working in industrial wastewater treatment.
  • Experience working in sales.
  • Experience working with electronic controls systems.
  • Experience writing technical documentation, such as installation plans.
