As a Senior Research and Development Engineer, you’ll join a dynamic team committed to strengthening the world’s energy systems to make them more resilient, efficient, and reliable.
Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Research and Development Engineer will independently lead technical investigations and iterative development efforts. The engineer will apply advanced knowledge to improve experimental reliability, scale emerging technologies, and guide junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Development
- Designs and conducts R&D experiments to correlate fabrication processes to material properties of superconducting products
- Analyzes data and documents findings in reports and technical forums. Owns data integrity
- Manages multiple experiments, prototypes, or workstreams concurrently
- Recommends and implements improvements to test processes, tools, or systems
Engineering Ownership
- Leads end-to-end design and testing of equipment and subsystems including the definition of technical requirements and specifications
- Identifies, documents and mitigates technical risks during development
- Evaluates root causes of inconsistencies and develop engineering solutions
Technical Guidance
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams in engineering and operations
- Reviews technical work from peers or junior engineers for quality and completeness
- Provides day-to-day guidance on lab work, test execution, and safety
- Contributes to team capability-building through mentoring and coaching
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or materials engineering, or a related field
- 4 years of engineering experience
- 2 years of relevant experience (Advanced degree). An advanced degree may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis, depending on relevance and level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or materials engineering, or related field
- Expert knowledge of engineering drafting/CAD tools (SolidWorks in particular)
- Experience independently leading test campaigns, system prototyping, or development projects
- Familiarity with statistical analysis
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Capable of independently executing tests, prototypes, and process iterations
- Provides informal guidance to junior team members
- Basic project management and leadership skills
Physical Demands: This position requires sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen for extended periods while working or performing other office tasks. Ability to move around the office, including occasional standing, walking, and bending to retrieve documents, attend meetings, or use office equipment. Some light lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
