Position Overview:

This position will provide leadership within (and beyond) Proterra’s Engineering organization. You will chart Proterra’s technology roadmap and set the technology strategy, and work with other leaders and engineers to establish Proterra as a world-class manufacturer of battery-based energy storage.

About the Role – You will:

  • Develop, define, & implement technology strategies to align with Proterra’s broader business goals
  • Collaborate with the Proterra Leadership team, Product Management, and other Engineering leaders to identify technology opportunities and set Proterra’s technology roadmap
  • Manage Proterra’s technology portfolio, by guiding the adoption or development, and implementation of innovative new battery technologies, and ensure they meet the company’s strategic needs
  • Help build and manage technology development budgets, and ensure strategic investments are cost-effective
  • Provide thought leadership on technology trends and ensure Proterra is operating strategically
  • Continuously survey the broader technology landscape, ensuring Proterra is keeping up with developments in other areas
  • Serve as a liaison between Proterra’s technology leadership team and other outside groups (such as other teams & parties within the Volvo Group)
  • Foster a culture of innovation and provide upward pressure on the product roadmap
  • Be a technical leader and an executive
  • Partner closely with many internal partner teams to create shared roadmaps and deliver on product vision and world class manufacturing execution
  • Be a SME in battery technologies, product development, & manufacturing
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a world class engineering team
  • Help shape thinking around designing scalable products and business/processes and programs to support Proterra’s growth

About Our Group:

The Engineering organization seeks to establish Proterra as a world leader in battery-based energy storage by conceptualizing, developing, and launching innovative battery systems. It is comprised of several different teams focused on Product Development, Systems Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Customer Engineering, and Engineering Operations.

  • You will report to the CTO and collaborate with other team members located at our manufacturing facilities in Greenville, SC and technology center in Burlingame, CA, as well as with broader parts of the Volvo Group.

About You:

Your Experience Includes:

  • 15+ years battery & e-mobility experience
  • 10+ years in technology management
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field
  • Experience with battery physics, including thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and electrochemistry
  • Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing methods and equipment
  • Detail oriented: ability to become a SME in order to make informed decisions
