POSITION SUMMARY
Position: Agronomist (Full Time, Year-Round)
Location: Metro East IL + regional travel across commercial sites, athletic facilities, and golf courses
The Agronomist leads plant health, soil science, and turf strategy across all service lines, including residential, commercial, sports turf, and golf course accounts. You’ll diagnose issues, design programs, support field teams, and build trusted advisor relationships.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Agronomy & Turf Health
- Diagnose weeds, insects, diseases, soil conditions, and turf stressors across lawns, sports fields, commercial sites, and golf courses.
- Develop plant health programs using sound chemistry, soil science, and IPM.
- Provide coaching on mowing practices, application techniques, cultural practices, and seasonal maintenance for all site types, including greens and fairways.
Customer Partnership & Support
- Conduct proactive site walks and agronomic consults for homeowners, property managers, athletic directors, and golf course superintendents.
- Lead service recovery with professionalism and clarity.
- Build long-term trust by delivering science-based recommendations.
Sales, Growth & Retention
- Support customer acquisition across all service lines—including golf courses seeking renovation, fertility plans, or agronomic consulting.
- Promote turf programs, aeration, overseeding, soil improvements, and drainage solutions.
- Meet retention goals across residential, commercial, sports, and golf accounts.
Team Training & Development
- Train field staff and technicians on turf science and safety practices.
- Strengthen internal understanding of cultural practices for athletic fields, greens, tees, and fairways.
- Reinforce Munie values throughout daily operations.
DIVISION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Residential
- Conduct service visits and diagnose turf challenges.
- Acquire new customers through expert recommendations.
- Maintain 84% retention of desired clients through exceptional turf outcomes.
Commercial
- Inspect properties and design season-long turf strategies.
- Provide guidance on water management, soil needs, and environmental stress concerns.
- Maintain 90% retention of desired commercial clients.
Sports Turf
- Support athletic fields at schools, parks, and municipalities.
- Plan seasonal programs with performance and safety in mind.
- Maintain 95% retention of desired sports turf clients.
Golf Courses
- Partner with superintendents to diagnose issues on greens, tees, approaches, roughs, and fairways.
- Build agronomic programs that enhance playability, consistency, and turf health.
- Support renovation planning, fertility scheduling, and aerification strategies.
- Maintain strong relationships through quality results and trusted expertise.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
(Not required but extremely beneficial)
- Golf course agronomy, sports turf management, or athletic field maintenance.
- Certified payroll / prevailing wage exposure.
- AIA billing familiarity.
- Pesticide applicator licensing.
- Degree or coursework in agronomy, turfgrass management, or horticulture.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing turf and soil issues.
- Strong understanding of chemistry, soil science, and turf management technology.
- Clear and relatable communication with customers, technicians, and superintendents.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across site types.
- English fluency required; Spanish helpful.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, and inspect properties—including golf courses—up to 12 hours/day during peak season.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
- Peak-season availability of 50–65 hours/week.
