What we are looking for:
As the Manager of Technical Sales Engineering (TSE) at Stem, you will be the customer's primary technical contact and mentor to the Technical Sales team. You will bring your years of solar or energy storage industry experience to your team to guide our customers and sales team to understand project requirements, write technical proposals and coordinate with Deployments to ensure timely and accurate solution delivery. Through the entire process from initial inquiry to solution acceptance, you will act as technical customer liaison. While this role will be primarily focused on utility-scale controls, EMS, and SCADA, you will also spend time supporting the growing technical needs of Stem’s distributed generation customers.
Day-to-day you will join customer calls, describe technical solutions, and manage technical cases / opportunities across a talented team. You will engage with sales, product management, and deployment teams understanding and coordinating technical matters to align with product strategy. Travel within the US is occasionally required including visits to Stem’s San Francisco Bay Area HQ or Denver/Broomfield, CO office. This position would be ideally located near Denver, CO but can be remotely located near a major airport.
Responsibilities:
Support the sales team in all technical aspects, attending customer meetings as needed
Build strong, lasting customer relationships and advocate internally for accurate on-time solution delivery
Elicit project requirements by interfacing with the customer, and reviewing design documentation including electrical SLDs, site layouts, PPA, Interconnection Agreements, and technical specification documents
Vet the technical viability of a solution as it is applied to each project or portfolio opportunity that comes through the sales team by interfacing with product management and deployments
Write customer facing proposals appropriate to both the budgetary and P.O. acceptance stage with a detailed scope of work
Ensure internal project hand-off meetings occur between Sales, TSE, and Project Management for projects meeting complex qualifications
Support the deployment team during project commissioning preparation with scope clarifications
Identify new product opportunities and define product requirements
Help to define and refine internal processes
Stay aware of industry trends and share information across the company as appropriate
Attend industry trade shows and events
Other duties as assigned
Management Responsibilities:
Help manage Stem’s Technical Sales Engineering (TSE) team and distribute Technical Sales Request (TSR) cases to the team ensuring timely follow-up / support is delivered to sales and the customer
Organize, direct, and monitor daily activities of the TSE team members
Hire, train, motivate, and develop the team as required in line with organizational policies
Facilitate technical training for the TSE team on a routine basis leveraging internal resources when possible
Field technical and process questions from TSEs, Sales, and customers
Analyze and produce management facing reports depicting productivity, volume, and opportunity trends requiring TSE attention
Ensure TSEs are aware of changing customer proposal deadlines and give the Project Management team visibility to tight delivery expectations prior to P.O.
Seek opportunities to make existing processes more efficient
Maintain records of technical sales requests, proposals, and scope of work-related documents produced
Actively seek opportunities to acknowledge excellent work / performance
Stay up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions
Basic Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering or any other related engineering discipline. Equivalent work experience considered for the right candidate.
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Sales Engineer / customer facing technical role
Minimum 5 years of experience required in utility-scale solar or energy storage industry
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in client interaction & excellent written/verbal communication
Solution-oriented, organized problem-solving skillset
Experience with SCADA, and PLC based control systems required
Strong familiarity with reading electrical design packages
Experience writing technical proposals and delivering customer presentations
Experience designing fiber and Ethernet field networks preferred
Proven experience with US-based utilities and ISOs and associated SCADA / control interconnection requirements
Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, and other industry standards and ideally affiliations with IEEE and/or EEI trade organizations
Willingness to travel 25 – 40% for visits to office headquarters, customer meetings, and trade shows. New business standards have necessitated less in the last few years, but that could change.

Salary Range
