We are looking for a Power Plant Operations Engineer (PPOE) to join our Network Operations team that operates, maintains, and optimizes performance of Stem’s full portfolio of C&I-sited behind-the-meter (BTM) and front-of-the-meter (FTM) energy storage systems (ESS).
You will have the opportunity to work with a stellar team building bleeding edge technologies in Artificial Intelligence, IOT Networking, Energy Storage use-cases and advanced hardware/controls integration to revolutionize the grid. An ideal candidate will have an electrical engineering background that focuses on power and energy systems or power electronics and thrives on being the subject matter expert
(SME) on deployed systems, developing and owning technical relationships with equipment OEMs, identifying and resolving equipment and operational issues, and representing Stem in mission-critical operational improvement relationships with partners and asset owners to achieve real business outcomes. The candidate will focus on developing new processes and procedures to improve efficiency within the remote operation center and power plant operation engineering team.

Responsibilities:
- Identify, prioritize, and troubleshoot ESS equipment and operational incidents in accordance with customer business requirements, organizational policies, and operational impact.
- Develop processes and procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Product Development Team to ensure operational sustainability point of view are considered during new product introduction (NPI)
- Create KPIs to analyze and discover possible growing issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Create new rules for our data engine, to support strategic root cause corrections.
- Provide timely responses to all incidents, outages, and performance alerts. Categorize issues for escalation to appropriate technical teams.
- Coordinate with field technicians during installation and operational issue resolution.
- Work with internal and external technical and service teams to support both temporary and permanent solutions to system issues, and to create and/or update knowledge base articles.
- Perform basic systems testing and operational tasks. (Installation of patches, network connectivity testing, script execution, etc.)
- Lead multiple ad hoc technical teams in operational environments with high uptime requirements.
- Train and Support Tier 1 team on new Systems, Devices and Projects.
- Support integration team during testing and provisioning of new assets being built under Stem’s portfolio of energy storage systems.
- Establish clear scope of work for managing field technicians and resolve unexpected roadblocks encountered during troubleshooting.
Requirements:
- BS degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5-8 years of total experience. 1-3+ years experience with systems that incorporate batteries, solar, and power conversion systems.
- Aptitude to quickly learn new systems/technical applications.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented personality, demanding high quality performance from self and colleagues.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and diagrams.
- Basic knowledge of network communication architectures and protocols.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with customers and Stem technical personnel in high stress situations.
- Ability to think creatively to resolve problems.
- Experience with Jira & Confluence, SQL, Python, Linux/ command line, Big Data visualization, relational databases are a plus.
- Knowledge in electrical power and metering systems a plus.
